Watts Re:Imagined (www.wattsreimagined.org) is a development program co-led by Grant Housing & Economic Development Corporation (GHEDC) and the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) through its Urban Solutions program. GHEDC is a non-profit connected to Grant AME Church, which will celebrate 110 years in Watts in 2016. Within NRDC, an international environmental and public policy organization, Urban Solutions focuses on building healthy, sustainable cities.
Watts Re:Imagined is our pro-active response to the void left in 2012 by the dissolution of the City’s Community Redevelopment Agency. The initiative reflects a continued need for sustained, effective action in Watts and is based on existing plans decided though extensive community participation while incorporating new thinking about green development – a priority in Mayor Garcetti’s Sustainable City pLAn.
